About Flowers Family Ranch
As a lifelong University of Texas fan and a Texas Ex, I have always loved Longhorn cattle. After many years of passively following the industry I bought my first steer in July 2005. Just like most of the breeders I talk to, you can never buy just one. After research into pedigree and projections I found myself engulfed in the Longhorn Industry. Needless to say, what started with one steer for a pasture ornament has now turned into a full blown business. I bought my steer from a longtime friend, Shannon Larson of Beaumont, Texas. Shannon was very instrumental in getting me into the industry and selling me on the greatness of Emperor!
Over the past couple of years I have had the fortune of speaking with many other Longhorn breeders and I have found this to be one fascinating industry. Although many have different strategies, breeders have one common goal: To improve the breed. With the help of many of you, and the power of the internet, I feel I have learned a lifetime worth of information in a short time. What a great industry when people are willing to give their time to help newcomers. Texas Longhorn Breeders are some of the greatest people on Earth and we consider ourselves fortunate to be apart of this industry.
My wife, Sharilyn has learned to love the breed as well. She was somewhat skeptical at first, however she now loves the animals almost as much as I do. We have a 3 year old son, Patrick and have a 1 year old girl named Kirsten.
Patrick was born on December 17, 2004 and it snowed on his first Christmas. We were both 26 years old and that was the first time it had ever snowed on Christmas Day in our lifetime. Patrick began his life 16-0 as a Texas Longhorn fan with two Rose Bowl wins and a National Championship. He has also seen a baseball National Championship as well. Needless to say, we think he has brought great fortune to the Texas Longhorn teams. He loves nothing more than going out with dad in the pasture and feeding the real Texas Longhorns.
Kirsten was born September 20, 2006. She weighed in at 8lbs 3oz and 19" long!!!! We are certainly blessed to have two beautiful children!! She looks just like her older brother and he just thinks she is great!!
This is truly a family business now. My brothers, Justin and Kevin, and my sister, Dawn, as well as Shari & I bought a beautiful piece of property in Devers, Texas and it will be the home to our cattle. Many of you historians will know that Devers is right in the heart of Longhorns history. It is only 6 miles from Raywood, Texas where the Blackie Graves dispursal sale took place. Although they are not in the industry full pledged, they are involved. I am always looking to bring people into this great breed and organization and I believe my brothers will be a great asset.
In addition to our family businesses, Level Check Foundation Repair, Beaumont and Texas Plumbing Supply, in Houston, I also serve as the Youth Pastor at New Life Tabernacle in Beaumont, Texas. My wife serves at my side and also heads up our Hands of Praise ministry that worships God with sign language. We are honored to serve in these offices.
